Today, marks my 21 years of life. Honestly, still can't believe I've reached official adulthood. At this point, I feel like life switches gears and races forward to uncharted territories and I'm totally unprepared for it. But since it is my birthday, here's 21 facts about me (that you may or may not find interesting) for you to get to know me a little better.
1. When and where were you born?
a: May 25th of '97 in Dagupan City, Philippines in the midst of a violent hurricane. Also fun fact: When I used to live in the islands, there was almost always a heavy downpour on my birthday.
2. What's your zodiac sign?
a: I'm a Gemini personified - an expressive conversationist and a cold-hearted realist.
3. Favorite movie?
a: The Bourne Ultimatum. Actually, the whole Bourne Trilogy are my favorite movies of all time. I love me my raw, non-CGI fighting sequences.
4. What's the first thing you notice about people?
a: Their eyes. There's something about someone's eyes that give out a little sense of their character/personality.
5. Favorite scents?
a: Clean and fresh citrus-like smells, floral scents (like of lilacs and plumerias), and the smell of freshly roasted coffee beans. For reference, my favorite fragrances are:
- "L'Eau d'Issey" by Issey Miyake
- "Citrine" by NEST
- "Brit Sheer" by Burberry
6. Favorite Disney Movie?
a: Tarzan (The movie's soundtrack is also one of the best of the Disney Renaissance era. I think it's partly because it was Phil Collins- the legend himself -who worked on it. "Strangers like Me" and "You'll Be In My Heart" are gems).
7. What are your hobbies?
a: poetry (reading and writing it), photography, and playing the guitar
8. Favorite alcoholic drinks?
a: Champagne (Dom Perignon is the best there is), Peach Sangria, and Johnnie Walker Scotch (Don't know why I like this stuff because tastes like straight up rubbing alcohol, but it feels good when it starts to warm you up from the inside). Drink responsibly friends.
9. Favorite artwork(s)/artists?
a: If you don't already know, I've been a HUGE art junkie ever since I was toddler. One of my favorite artworks is a series of paintings by Thomas Cole entitled "The Course of Empire." It's basically the story of civilization rising up to build magnificent empires that eventually fall to gluttony and decay. I really love how it represents the cycle of birth, destruction, and rebirth of civilizations because it's a concept that will always be relevant to modern society. I also admire artists like Pablo Picasso and Jackson Pollock because they're the first people who paved the path for the revolution towards modern and post-modern art.
10. What was your best/worst subject in high school?
a: My best subject was world history (it was also my favorite subject), and my worst subject was geometry. I could never, for the life of me, grasp the concept of parallelograms and how proofs worked.
11. If you could give your younger self any advice, what would it be?
a: "Don't get too excited about adulthood. Enjoy the span of your youth and make it as colorful as you can. You'll definitely make mistakes along the way, but don't be afraid of making them. You're not perfect. You're only human. It's all a part of growing up and learning how to deal with life's ventures."
12. Name your Top 3 favorite books of all time.
a: 1) The Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas - My favorite book of all time. 20/10 would recommend. The interwoven story lines make this story the greatest adventure I've ever been on.
2) The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky - The perfect coming of age story. It offers a lot of essential life advice for teenagers and young adults.
3) Perfume by Patrick Süskind - If you're into crime/mystery books, take a look into this one. It's a little graphic and weird af, but the plot is super interesting.
4) Honorable mention to Dr. Seuss' Oh, the Places You'll Go! because it was my favorite book to read as a kid.
13. Favorite song(s)?
a: "Slow Dancing in a Burning Room" by John Mayer and "Whisper to a Scream" by Icicle Works
14. Favorite music genre?
a: I don't have one since I have a really eclectic taste in music. If you go through my music library, you'll see some RnB, Classical, Hard Rock, Alternative, Jazz, and etc. It really just depends on my mood of the week. Currently, I've been listening to a lot of Neosoul (e.g. Miguel, Frank Ocean, and Daniel Caesar).
15. Favorite childhood memory?
a: I fell into a river trying to help my friends, who also fell in. I ended up losing both my flip-flops and went home drenched; burnt my bare soles walking on 100+ degree of hot pavement on the way. I tried to be discreet about the incident and snuck inside our house through the back door, but my mom eventually found out about it as usual.
16. Apple or Android?
a: Though I own a MacBook, I'm siding with Android. I left Apple because it felt like the company has lost their sense of innovation after Steve Jobs passed. It's all about the money these days (e.g. Those dongles for your new MacBooks and iPhones without headphone jack ports? No, thank you).
17. Hollywood crushes?
a: Johnny Depp, Sebastian Stan, and currently (and surprisingly), Tom Holland. He's so cute and I believe that he played Spider-Man/Peter Parker really well in the latest Spider-Man film/MCU films, maybe even better than Tobey Maguire did. Sorry, not sorry.
He's so cute 😍...and his hair always looks so good(?) |
a: Appearance-wise, I'm really into sharp jaw lines and strong eyebrows. (Note: I didn't even know I had a type until my mom told me). Personality-wise, I usually fall for people who can easily make me laugh, and someone who can hold an hour-long fruitful conversation with me without it getting boring.

19. Favorite vacation destination?
a: LAGUNA BEACH, CALIFORNIA - the most beautiful place I've ever been to besides South Lake Tahoe. Imagine crystal-clear blue waters and the scent of ocean spray; the warmth of the sun on your skin. Refer yourselves to my laguna post.
20. A brand you would recommend for everyone to try.
a: Bose! I would recommend everybody to try and invest in any of the Bose merchandise on the market today. Every piece of audio equipment I own are all by Bose. I know they can be on the expensive side, but they're all excellent quality products. (P.S. Bose, please sponsor me. Haha).
21. A quote you swear by.
a: "These three things- work, will, success - fill human existences. Will opens the door to success, both brilliant and happy. Work passes these doors, and at the end of the journey, success comes in to crown one's efforts." -Louis Pasteur
